Nostalgic English tin with countryside hunting scene on the lid.
Made for famous English sweet manufacturer Clarnico, ca. 1950s.
Hinged lid, lock and key, moulded feet at the bottom
fox hunting scene with English red-coated gentlemen on horses and dogs running ahead in the green fields.
Interesting shaped box, gold and cream with a poem printed under the lock:
"A Hunting we will go
by Henry Fielding
The dusky night rides down the sky
And ushers in the morn;
The Hounds all join in glorious cry,
The Huntsman winds his horn,
And a-hunting we will go.

Clarnico was founded in 1872 in Hackney-Wicks by Clarke, Nickolls and Coombs and started producing candied peel soon diversifying into making marmalade, jam and sweet. By the 1890s it was the largest sweet manufacturer in the UK. It made the famous mint creams as well as liquorice Chinese Pigtails, coconut-based Toasted Haddocks and more.
By the 1900s it had its own fire brigade, ambulance, brass band and a 100-strong choral society. It was bought in the late 1960s by Trebor.
