Part of the Literary Stone paperweights collection, this pebble creation is inspired by Italo Calvino's Invisible Cities - a novel about the power of imagination, human culture and the elusive nature of storytelling.
Calvino's stories are layers of meanings which are referenced here with the layers of antique paper and the accentuated natural contours of the stone, each representing a moment in time.
Words are sometimes repeated, sometimes overlap; paper, graphite, ink circle the stone creating yet another reading.
"Arriving at each city the traveller finds again a past of his that he did not know he had:
the foreignness of what you no longer are or no longer possess lies in wait for you
in foreign unpossesed places."
