In Xanadu did Kubla Khan
A stately pleasure-dome decree
Where Alph, the sacred river, ran
Through caverns measurless to man
Down to a sunless sea.

The Stones of Kubla Khan is a mixed media object inspired by Coleridge's iconic poem.

An extract from the poem is handwritten with black pigment ink on Lokta fibre paper which fuses with the natural contours of the domed Scottish pebble and is interspersed with gold leaf. Natural wrinkle paper unites with the rugged surface of the flat pebble on which the domed stone rests.

Approx. stone dimensions: domed stone 6.5 x 6 cm; flat stone 12 x 9 cm

The work of collage artist Lito Apostolakou hosted in Inklinks discusses narratives of time, words, memory and history. Lito uses antique papers, archival ink, vintage prints and worn stationery to create 3D collages on found objects like stones, wooden boards and writing cases. Her pieces are inspired by literary works, museum vitrines and archival exhibits as well as by the actual tools of mark making and their histories.
Lito works from her home studio in Muswell Hill, London.
